Wildlife and Wildflowers
Turn your camera on the wildlife and wildflowers of the South Chilcotin Mountains Park
Have you ever wanted to be a Professional Photographer?
The phone rings and the assignment editor offers you the opportunity to visit one of the few remaining places on the planet that can honestly claim to be wild, the South Chilcotin Mountains Park. Pack your passport and camera and plan on spending four inspiring days with your host in one of the most awe-inspiring locations on earth, photographing Wildlife and Wildflowers.
Only at Chilcotin Holidays will you have the opportunity to participate in this unique photography experience, traveling the back-country by Pack Horse with a small group of eight dedicated photographers, during four exciting days of photographing wildlife unique to this part of the world.
After receiving a comprehensive orientation in saddling, shoeing, packing and riding, by the ranch hands at Chilcotin Holidays - two skilled Trail Guides will lead you away from the ranch for three days, on horseback, to produce some of the most memorable photographs of wildlife and landscapes that you will ever have the opportunity to capture.
What You'll See Along The Trail
Several trails lead away from the ranch and all of them pass through wide river valleys, spectacular alpine meadows and awesome mountain peaks. Weather conditions in the Chilcotin Mountains are predictably stable with typically sun-filled days and star-filled night skies. Combined with a virtually bug-free environment, you have the perfect combination to take advantage of that special light during the “magic hour” at the beginning and end of each day. Watching the sun kissing the peak of each mountain, one after another, as it rises higher into the morning sky is a moment you will not soon forget.
Depending on the time of year you decide to join this tour, you will encounter wildlife species such as Grizzly Bears, Cinnamon Bears - a color phase of the Black Bear - Mountain Goats, Big Horn Sheep, wolf and Bald Eagles. Early summer offers up a breathtaking bouquet of colorful alpine wildflowers, against a backdrop of magnificent mountains, glaciers and year-round snowy peaks. Not only are the jagged peaks memorable for their ruggedness, the scree slopes themselves offer up a rainbow of colors stained by the various naturally occurring minerals such as copper and iron.
Your Greatest Challenge Will Be To Decide Which Photograph To Select As Your Favorite
This opportunity is being offered during July and August. Designed for the enthusiastic photographer, the program is limited to a maximum of eight participants per session offering one-on-one instruction as well as group discussions.
It doesn't matter what camera or what level of expertise you possess – what matters is a zeal for photography. The instruction will review the fundamentals of composition, lighting and design, with an emphasis on the image, whether produced on an iPhone, or a full-featured DSLR with interchangeable lenses.
We will also draw on our experience with tight deadlines, to share our approach and insights regarding how to maximize time. This is especially important when producing work for hire, where conditions are less than optimal and your window of opportunity is short. Time will be set aside for end-of-the-day critique and review of your photographs, followed by the fundamentals of image processing with Adobe Lightroom for those wanting post-processing instruction.
A mutual passion for Environmental Conservation and Stewardship
At Chilcotin Holidays, our connection with the environment and unfaltering commitment to responsible stewardship of the land educates every decision we make. Walking the talk and accepting this responsibility requires a deep understanding of the ecological balance upon which the wildlife relies for its very survival, and a commitment to protect it.
Unlike other Photography Tours, we challenge you to improve your photographic skills while exposing you to an education like no other. By joining this tour, you have demonstrated that you appreciate the ecological importance of the wildlife and their habitat, wild river valleys and colorful alpine meadows. After this experience, remaining silent on the need to advocate for responsible stewardship of these wild lands will be impossible.
While traveling through the back-country, you will participate in our efforts, by recording wildlife sightings of the various wildlife species, as well as collecting Grizzly Bear hair samples from territorial marker trees. By assisting in this way, you will be helping us to gather valuable data that contribute to accurate population estimates and determine healthy carrying capacities for the various significant wildlife that call these valleys and mountains home.
Remember that this Wildlife and Wildflower photography tour is only offered during July and August and is limited to eight participants per session.
