We are not strangers to the Wilderness – guest story

We are not strangers to the Wilderness

We are avid hikers and campers, so we’re not strangers to the wilderness. But we really wanted to try something new; some way to experience nature and the wilderness that we had never done before. A horse packing trip with Chilcotin Holidays more than satisfied our desire.

We had no idea what to expect going into our trip, but it absolutely exceeded our expectations. We had no idea how much skill it takes not just to properly ride and direct a horse, but also to connect with a horse. We were surprised and delighted to find that each of our horses had such a unique personality. One of our favorite parts of the trip was learning how to read our horses, and figuring out how to make sure the experience was as good for them as it was for us. We also had no idea how exhausting riding was–at the end of a full day of riding, we were ready to fall asleep as soon as we got back to camp.

Of course, our guides didn’t have that luxury, and they worked hard the entire time to make sure we were happy, the horses were happy, and everything was going as planned. They even taught us how to stake a horse, and about just how much horses love oats. Christophe and Job were both so happy to be out on the trail with us, and to teach us about the mountains we were riding through and the horses. Though we didn’t see too much wildlife, Christophe and Job were looking out for signs the whole time, and they pointed out every bear, wolf, or deer track that they saw. We couldn’t recommend Chilcotin Holidays more highly, we had such a wonderful trip, and everyone was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the experience.

Thank you to Job, Christophe, Meg, Tepee, and everyone else who helped make our trip such a wonderful adventure.

So that’s our story! Thanks for everything.
