Winter Ranch Adventure

Backcountry skiing

Chilcotin Holidays Guest Ranch, situated in the pristine wilderness of the South Chilcotin Mountains, offers you alpine skiing adventures.

Snowboarding

With record breaking snow packs of up to 5 meters last season, Chilcotin Holidays will take you out into untouched, beautiful back country where you can be the first to cut fresh tracks through the virgin alpine slopes. Fully guided trips through Chilcotin Holidays offer alpine skiing for all levels from beginner to advanced — whether you are an all terrain or tele-mark skier, there’s something for everyone.

Our guides are certified in both advanced wilderness first aid as well as avalanche assessment meeting the standards of the CAA. With their technical training and vast experience they will take you safely through some of British Columbia’s most stunning landscape.

Cross country skiing

We do not have an itinerary set in stone for our ski trips. They vary according to:

  1. Actual level of the trip (i.e. I, II, III)
  2. Season (i.e. January vs May)
  3. Specific interests of the guests (i.e. a leisurely ramble to a challenging trek)

Here is a general itinerary as to what guests can expect on their ski trip:

Lodge Based Skiing

Guests are picked up in Vancouver by our Chilcotin Express on the morning of the first day, arriving at the Lodge at noon for lunch followed by an afternoon of avalanche and equipment orientation as well as a short trek around the Lodge trails to get everything loosened up. Over the next three days, take advantage of the flexibility of a Lodge based trip.

Backcountry skiing

Our days will start early, right after a full hearty breakfast, we will soon venture out onto the local trails, you can choose from either a half day of skiing and return for a hot homemade lunch or decide to take a full day trip which will take skiers further from the Lodge, higher into the mountains and deeper into the back country. On a full day tour, enjoy an open-air lunch, packed and prepared by our Kitchen. At the end of a day’s satisfying ski, return to the Lodge in the evening greeted by the wafting aromas of your awaiting dinner. Evenings can be spent in the library, enjoying a campfire or take part in one of the activity options. The last day of the trip includes a refreshing morning ski. After a generous lunch, guests are picked up by the Chilcotin Express, arriving in Vancouver in the early evening.

Backcountry skiing

Choose a half-day ski in the morning, or afternoon, with the rest of the time spent leisurely at the Lodge or taking advantage of our many other activity options, such as ice-fishing, wolf/moose viewing, horse drawn sleigh rides.

Hut Based Skiing

Guests are picked up in Vancouver by our Chilcotin Express on the morning of their first day, arriving at the Lodge at noon. After a healthy home made lunch, our certified guides will give a thorough in house avalanche safety and equipment orientation before assisting guests to repack personal gear into their own packs. Cross country skiing Guests will then go for a short trek around the Lodge and hit some gentle slopes to work out all the kinks. Guests then return to the Lodge for a wonderful home-cooked meal and spend the evening planning their adventure with our guides.

The next day after an early start, guests and guides head off to the first winter hut, arriving late afternoon and enjoying a fine dinner prepared by our guides.

Each day from camp, enjoy an endless number of different trails and turns radiating from the hut, taking you to Alpine basins, lofty mountain ridges, mountain divides and pristine glaciers — stopping for an alfresco lunch, photo opportunities and just to take in the stunning views. After a full day of skiing guests will be able to relax in our huts enjoying a well prepared hot meal and sipping on a delicious hot chocolate around an old fashioned campfire.

On the last day of the ski trip, we head out early and ski back to the Lodge. Arriving at noon, enjoy a sumptuous lunch before being picked up by the Chilcotin Express, arriving in Vancouver in the early evening. Backcountry skiing
