Wilderness Guide Training in adventure Tourism
Chilcotin Holidays Adventure Tourism Training Program
Chilcotin Holidays is the Canadian Wilderness Tourism Training Centre for all horse-based wilderness guide training and all wilderness lodge based skills that lead up to and include lodge management.
Training by a Licensed Guide Outfitter...it’s
what makes the difference in the quality of the guide in Adventure
Tourism.
We have been training wilderness guides since 1990.
People from all over the world, from all walks of life, have
graduated from our programs and have gone on to fill the
employment needs of the adventure tourism industry throughout the
world.
These Programs are about “guiding in the wilderness”, and provide participants with a solid base of combined working knowledge and practical skills. Programs are designed for a) individuals intent on learning the basic skills required by a professional guide in adventure tourism, b) individuals with a goal to own or manage their own adventure tourism business, and c) individuals that want an educational holiday.
You’ll learn Western Mountain riding, horse handling, every
step of horse shoeing, how to pack just about everything onto a
packhorse, wilderness skills, camp preparation and much more.
These are all fundamental skills required on wildlife and
photographic safaris, guest ranches, Licensed Guide Outfitting
adventures, horse pack trips, fishing adventures, horse supported
hiking and other wilderness adventures.
The first half takes place at our Ranch, where theoretical and practical training is provided in a controlled environment. The last half is spent in the high alpine where you apply your newly learned skills to “the real thing”.
We’re told again and again by our graduates that the reason they are able to learn so much is because the training is applied. That’s right, you are actually out there alongside your instructor(s) getting first hand experience.
Our training programs are modular and graduated. They are short but intense, and can be taken separately or in various combinations. This allows you to adapt your training to suit your experience, your schedule, financial situation and personal interests.

“What helped was the hands-on experience.
We were able to practice what we had learned up in the
mountains.
The lifestyle is what I want, the people are great, and
the scenery is heart stopping.”
