As you learn how to build a log cabin, it’s vitally important that you understand the preparation the goes into building a cabin in the woods. Our Woodlot License uniquely positions our instructors to share best practices for woodlot management plans and sustainable, selective harvesting of logs for cabin construction. This gives you a comprehensive understanding of responsible woodlot management and low-impact wilderness construction as you work within government guidelines.

After completing our log cabin building course, you won’t just know how to build a log cabin from scratch. Day 2
  • Ranch Breakfast
  • Today’s curriculum includes instruction to log cabin building with lessons on building Specs, cutting, shaping and limbing procedures.
  • Equipment & Supplies
  • Gain knowledge and get hands-on experience by running the chainsaw
  • Enjoy lunch at the Ranch and continue your progress by learning logging terminology, notching and felling

Day 3
  • Continue to practice running the saw by cutting firewood
  • Learn the correct technique for choosing and placing logs
  • Start building by learning how to make level foundations and putting first logs up
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the ranch

Day 4
  • Explanation of government regulations and licenses for log Cabin Building
  • Continue practicing your log cabin skills by learning and practicing saw maintenance and basic saddle notch
  • Cabin building demonstrations and hands-on practice

Day 5
  • Continue to learn saw maintenance
  • Basic instructions for wall construction and control, openings for windows and doors and instructions for electrical access.

Day 6
  • Saw Maintenance
  • Start to work and implement design structure for roofing of the cabin
