Guide Employment

LICENSING OF ASSISTANT GUIDES
The provincial system is such that Assistant Guide Licenses are obtained by the employer. It is the employer that has to be a Licensed Guide Outfitter or Licensed Angling Guide. The Assistant Guide Licenses apply during a person’s employment with that employer.

THE CHILCOTIN HOLIDAYS GUIDE
APPRENTICESHIP LOG BOOK AND CERTIFICATE

We provide graduates with a certificate upon completion of the training. Like other industries, graduates are given an apprenticeship Log Book developed by Chilcotin Holidays. The purpose of the Chilcotin Holidays Guide Apprenticeship Log Book is to register all related training, experience, licenses and tickets as graduates work towards becoming professional guides. The Log Book includes a detailed description of all training and experience required for the various levels of guiding (Levels D to A). All training and experience entries must be endorsed by employers, instructors or authorized representatives. This initiative has been designed by Chilcotin Holidays to increase the level of professionalism within the industry.

JOB OPPORTUNITY/EMPLOYMENT
Horse Trailer Chilcotin Holidays sends a referral package out to over 450 outfitters, ranches, fishing lodges and stables throughout British Columbia, Alberta and the Yukon. The referral package includes a notice describing the skills acquired by our graduates and a form that allows these tourism operators to enter their staff needs. The notices are then returned to Chilcotin Holidays, and collated into what we call our “job opportunities” listing. Upon completion of the training, graduates receive this listing of job opportunities available with other operators throughout western Canada and with Chilcotin Holidays.

“It’s great to be finally doing something for a living that I used to only dream about ever doing. The work is hard and hours are long, but at the end of the day you feel so good with what you’ve accomplished.”

Colleen Murphy, Golden British Columbia
