Chilcotin Holidays Christian Retreat Program

What better way to reflect on all that God has done for you than to spend time with Him and friends out in the middle of His creation in the quiet of the Chilcotin Mountains.

Soli Deo Gloria
(Solely to the Glory of God)

This retreat option involves adding a Biblically based Christian retreat forum to any of multiple ranch stays or pack trips. The focus of the program is to use God’s great creation, horses, and the Bible to arm Christians to face their everyday lives with a firm foundation in the principles of faith. The retreat is based on a topic chosen by the group and conducted involving a series of services, Bible studies, workshops, and prayer along side horseback riding and other ranch activities.

Based on the overarching theme presented in Mark 6:30–32, we offer our participants a chance to get away, reconnect, and commune with other believers or people who are wrestling with the idea of choosing a faith oriented life. The programs offered are developed by on-staff program coordinators using only three resources: The Bible, horses/wildlife, and God’s great Creation.

Retreat Only:

Ranch lounge room

The Retreat only option is developed for groups who want only to focus on the study aspects of the experience. All activities are conducted out of the ranch and surrounding area. This option includes all of the activities below with the exception of horseback riding and is great for people with no horse experience or interest in horseback riding. The beautiful setting of the main ranch gives participants a chance to fully appreciate creation and dependence on God.

Ranch Stays: (4-7 day)

Ranch Stay Retreats involve all of the activities listed below and are scheduled around a series of half and full day rides to various breath taking sites. All rides end back at the main ranch. A large part of the Ranch Stay Retreats involve reflection and appreciation of the world God has created and how wonderfully He made each and every part. Ranch Stays are available in 4 and 7 day packages and regular ranch activity add-ons are available for extra cost throughout the trip.

Pack Trip:

Pack Trip Retreats involve all of the activities listed below and require relocation to alpine camps. The change of scenery and lifestyle add to the overall tone of the retreat by reminding participants of our dependence on God’s work. Travelling on horseback, participants will gain experience moving from destination to destination in a nomadic existence while sleeping out in the peaceful alpine camps. Appreciation for creation, wildlife, and the vast night sky are the highlights of discussion on these trips.

For more information that is specific to pack trips please refer to the Wilderness Horse Pack Trips / Horseback Riding page in the website.

Themes

Services are organized around a previously agreed upon prescribed topic based on approved curriculum. A list of said themes will be made available to choose from, as well as specific requests for tailored programs can be made (for additional cost), or the group can bring their own study materials which will be administered by their own chosen leader.

All services and meetings will be lead by the Chilcotin Guide unless the group supplies their own leader and requests that they run events.

Hymns

Bonfire

Hymns used both in services and at bonfires can be chosen from a list of approved hymns provided by the Chilcotin Staff, unless the group supplies their own music/accompaniment/leadership. Guitar accompaniment and vocal leadership are otherwise provided.

Among the activities that will make up your trips itinerary are the following:

Worship Service
Service includes Scripture readings, hymns, a message (preaching), and prayer. Usually 1 hr in length. A traditional church service.
Prayer Meeting
Service includes prayer requests and either a leader or all members praying aloud, some silent prayer is included as well as creeds and recitations of scripture passages.
Devotional Meeting
Morning devotional meetings will be held to call attention to the days events, dedicate them to the Lord, pray over the day and participants, and get the group in the mood for what lies ahead.
Bible Study
Group discussion and study of predetermined Biblical Passages that coincide with the chosen theme of the retreat. This looks at what the passages say, mean, and are trying to tell the reader.
Taize Service
A form of solemn, monastic-style worship based on quiet reflection, simple hymns, scripture readings and prayer.
Workshops
Workshops will be lead with the intent of teaching new skills to the participants. Workshop topics can be chosen from a prescribed list or requested for approval previous to the beginning of the retreat.
Also horseback riding (when applicable), hiking, and wildlife viewing are included. Pond

“The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught. Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat. So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.” Mark 6:30–32
“Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.” Psalm 32:9
